Akwa Ibom state government has approved the immediate payment of one year leave grant to primary school teachers in the state.
Governor Udom Emmanuel gave the directive today during the state executive council session he presided over at government house Uyo.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Emem-Obong who made this known while briefing Government House Correspondents, the move was part of efforts to address issues of leave grant indebtedness to primary school teachers in the state.
Comrade Emem-Obong said in the meantime, labour leaders and relevant government ministries were working out a process for the payment of backlog of leave grant, subsequently.
Meanwhile, the state government has awarded contract for the construction of 13.6 kilometer Orukim-Unyenge- Universal Energy Road up to the Ibom Deep Seaport in Mbo LGA.
This was one among several road projects which contract for construction have either been awarded or reawarded in the bid to ensure the realization of the completion agenda.
Comrade Ini Emem-Obong who announced this as part of resolutions reached during the state executive council meeting, said contract has also been awarded for the construction of 6.6 kilometer outfall drain with pedestrian bridge and service duct on Oron Road to Airport Road in Uyo.
Comrade Emem-Obong said the Governor has accordingly mandated the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga to ensure speedy construction of the roads including the 5.0 kilometer Mary Slessor Hospital Road in Itu LGA which contract has been re-awarded.
The state executive council session featured status reports, update and general review of projects under supervision by various ministries.
