Twitter ban: Nigerian has given condition to lift embargo it placed on the use of twitter in the country

It said until responsible communication is assured on the platform by users before such ban could be lifted.

Nigeria’s Foreign minister, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, who spoke after a meeting with some envoys in Nigeria gave no definite date for the resumption of the twitter platform but said the use of social media will determine if the ban will be called off.

Mr Onyeama told journalists that twitter was threatening the country hence the measure to stop them from being used as a platform for destabilization and facilitation of criminality.

The foreign affairs minister added that the decision was key for the maintenance of security in the country and to protect the sovereignty of the country which the digital rights advocates said it was censorship.

Nigeria on Friday suspended the operations of Twitter following the removal of  President Muhammadu Buhari  from the platform for allegedly inciting  violence.

The Nigeria’s Attorney-General   and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami,  has threatened  to dock anyone in court if the other is violated

Television and radio stations in Nigeria have also been directed to deactivate their Twitter handles.

Already, Nigeria broadcasting commission has mapped out plans to have a licensed twitter to operate under it after government banned the platform

The commission had earlier said that it will be unpatriotic for any broadcast medium to patronize the suspended Twitter

The Nigerian government surmmoned Envoys from the United .States,   United .Kingdom, Canada and the European Union for comments they made cautioning Nigeria on its action against Twitter
