Preparation for 2024/2025 NPFL Season
The club’s chairman, Mr. Paul Bassey, expressed the club’s ambition to secure a spot in prestigious continental competitions such as the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup.
He mentioned that Akwa United are determined to top the league standings and contend for the championship title. Mr. Bassey, a sports journalist himself, urged his colleagues to collaborate for improved coverage throughout the upcoming season but he never failed to mention that the club have teething problems despite being well funded and that no player or staff is being owed salaries.
He mentioned to journalists that the staff were asked to go home and anyone wishing to work again in the club should apply freshly. This he said was to bring sanity to the system.
Established in 1996, Akwa United has evolved into a dominant force in Nigerian football. Their home ground, the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, known as the “Nest of Champions,” offers a top-notch environment for players and fans alike.
The club’s signature colors, orange and white, are a common sight in the NPFL, and their consistent performances have placed them among the league’s elite. Akwa United has commenced their pre-season preparations with a focus on thoroughness and precision. The team’s training program incorporates a blend of physical conditioning, tactical exercises, and friendly matches.
The coaching staff, under the guidance of an experienced head coach, will stress the significance of fitness and teamwork.
Daily intensive training sessions concentrate on enhancing stamina, strength, and agility to ensure the players are in optimal physical condition at the start of the season.

In today’s digital age, social media is a powerful tool for connecting with fans. The club regularly posts updates, match highlights, behind-the-scenes content, and interactive polls to keep the fans engaged. This online presence helps in creating a sense of belonging among the supporters and allows them to stay connected with the team, regardless of their location.
