The final whistle at the Nest of Champions on Saturday caused wild jubilation in Port Harcourt as they were named the NPFL champions, with Rivers United maintaining their ten point lead over Plateau United who have three games remaining in the season.
With 51 points from 35 games and their 13th victory of the season, Akwa United moved up to seventh place in the standings. They also extended their unblemished home record against Plateau United to four wins and two draws in six meetings at the Nest of Champions.
