Nigerian athletes currently competing at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA, have gained a lot of experience and mental development to take on major high-level competitions in the future.
This revelation was made by the second vice president of the Member Federation and Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Rosa Collins, adding that most of Oregon’s young athletes compete in their first World Athletics Championships.
Collins said in an interview that although Nigeria has not won a medal so far, the determination and desire of the athletes to win laurels in the remaining events is very high.
“The young athletes of our team are completely determined and have gained the enormous experience necessary for their development.

In the men’s and women’s 100m some athletes reached the semifinals, in the men’s Shot Put we were in the final, that’s why these positive steps are not easy, these young athletes who have the experience here in the USA will unleash the hunger for laurels at the Olympic Games. The former African and national triple jump champion said Team Nigeria athletes have also made a bold impact on the ongoing championships in Oregon by ensuring they are in good health to compete freely. Collins still believes that the medals will be won by Team Nigeria in the hope that patience must be applied.
“In the women’s long jump, the 100 meters hurdles and the women’s relays are the areas where the medal for Nigeria will arrive and is called to pray for the success of the team”
She insisted that by the end of the World Championship, athletes would gain a lot of confidence to get closer to the Commonwealth Games after warming up in Oregon
